I'm pretty freaking bored with DDO again... Outside of raiding there really just isnt much left to do that's entertaining.
I've run every quest (much like a lot of you) gotten some great loot bla blabibity bla bla
Anyways... Do any of you have any experience with EQ2? I played the first one quite a bit for awhile...
I've been playing around with Dungeon Runners a little bit and it's a total arcade style mmo hack n slash game which will feature voice chat soon (Monday or so)
Anyways... not leaving yet... but am probably on my way out...
I really miss those college days when I'd leave the computer lab with Grommit about the time others were heading to class.
I played EQ too, but didn't try 2. Here's a good site with good info about it. http://eq2.allakhazam.com/ There are definitely more races/classes than ddo, but a wizard is a wizard is a wizard. There's not a lot of creativity to building characters in comparison to the wide variety of fighter builds you can make in ddo. There's a hell of a lot more content though that should keep you busy until AoC comes out in the fall :)
When I was in Japan, I worked on LAN that was firewalled from the rest of the network so we had our very own sys admin to maintain instead of the usual air force "(no) help desk" system. Our admin was really cool and moved nethack from the /games directory to an obscure path so we could play when things were slow.
The nethack dungeon makes an appearance in kingdomofloathing as the "Dungeons of Doom".
Have you tried EVE? I really liked it, but didn't have much time to play. So after getting jumped by a couple of dick-head pirates, I'd lose a ship that took two weeks to get. After getting jumped twice in a week I was back to running in a starter ship after playing for 3+ months.
Eve is a really awesome game. I really like it but I didn't really get that far into it.
It was become a big shot in eve or finish school. I don't know about EQ2. I think I would rather wait for one of the newer MMO's to come out. Like AOC or something like that.
See the other thing I'm trying to decide on is that DDO has basically jaded me to the whole "new mmo" idea. Which is basically why I've been looking at EQ2 based on my enjoyment of it's predecessor.
I'm literally just sick and tired of running the same crap over and over.
Of the few people I know who were heavy EQ players, none of them liked 2, they either stuck with 1 or went on to play WoW. But hell, there's a 7 day free trial so why not try it out? You should be able to play for a month or more before you level cap.
A lot of the older MMOs already have a solid player base and aren't trying to enter a very competitive market. DDO tried to make D&D playable in a fast paced MMO, stick with D&D to get pnp players, and MMO it up enough to attract MMO players. I think the game has turned away from pnp enough that they lost a chunk of the pnp player base. But also, they are staying true enough to D&D to make level cap increases (providing new spell levels etc), and appropriate content far more time consuming to produce. Thus losing a chunk of the MMO player base that has nothing better to do than play video games all day... especially now that it's summer.
AoC seems to be looking at picking up a specific market... older players who are tired of the same old MMO grind.
Well I played EQ2 for about a year and a half, had 2 characters. 55 Assasin and 60 Defiler (evil cleric). I loved EQ2 while I played it but its a "grind" game. I used to spend entire days just harvesting supplies to craft. I probably had the best cleric on the server, all the raid loot, Master spells including a 2 Master III spell. Then one day I decided to take a break and without knowing the consequences stopped my payments. Yeah well no one told me that I lost EVERYTHING when I did that. Thus I could never go back to EQ2 and try to accumulate everything I once had.
If your wondering about the game. EQ2 has probably the most content of any MMO out there. There is alot of **** in that game, more than WoW from those I know who play both. Even with all that content the bad thing is its the same thing over and over, just bigger and harder. BLEH!!!

If I'd kept up with eve my char would be almost 2 years old and a total badass since I dumped almost 8M into learning in the first few months, but I'd have no money since I don't have time to play.
Is this where every1 has gone, EQ2?? I do miss EQ2 alittle, and DDO is now getting too repetitious. I'll think about downloading it again and come with you guys. As far as starting a guild on EQ2, I think you have to have so many people petition to join your guild at the guild registrar. I believe its either 5-6 and some gold. Cant really remember how much but not alot.
DDO has some qualities that make it fun from time to time. However, for me those occasions are so far and few between that it's just so damn boring most of the time.
The one thing that has really drawn my attention to EQ II is that it's an extremely polished product and not a new MMO where bugs and kinks are being worked out constantly.
Like I said before we are playing on the Oasis server if you all want to come give it a try. It's just something different. :)
For the record, I am not leaving DDO. That being said, Turbine's got to step up the new content if they want to keep subscribers. If there were things like crafting, player housing, increase in the level cap, more classes and races, then I don't think we'd be having the debate. But as it stands we have months to go with no new content..
Anyway, I downloaded Everquest this weekend. Boy oh boy is it different. I can see why we get so few players from WOW and Everquest now - the game is too different and a bit confusing. I liked how Everquest pretty much holds your hand at the start and its pretty much impossible to create an unplayable charcter. I'm just hoping that things get a bit more challenging, because the fighting is a bit cartoony for me.

I'm not leaving either... yet :) I can't justify paying to play two games for 5 hours a week so I won't be joining you on EQ2. You're absolutely right, D&D is a LOT more complicated and it's really easy to build a char that just plain sucks. There was even a post on the dev boards about the ****ty pre-built halfling rogue to deter new players.
EQ2 is still based in large part on EQ but with a better graphics engine and some enhancements. The graphics engine is 3 years old and I doubt they have made any huge changes to it due to the large amount of content that would have to be re-tooled. So yes, it is going to be cartoony after playing DDO.
