AoC

So I know that grommit is trying it out anyone else?

I am going to try and go for the server that fynne and daishan are on so that I have people to group with.

Also planning on dong a PvP server as well since this sounds like fun as well.

When the preorder thing opens I guess we can sort out the server then.

Heylo guys long time no see!

I will be on AoC from the 17th on(took a vacation week), btw I am getting my own store this week to finally.. 5 years and 17 applebee's later...

I am bringing my brother Allen(Arkadey from DDO), buddy Erik(huge AshCall and WOW player) and my current gf Amber along for the ride.

For those who didn't know, I had some personal things come up last year which is one reason why i stopped playing, then by the time I got everything situated everyone had outlevelled my ass so i just decided to chill out and drink alot, which according to my doctor was the wrong thing to do, I have since been diagnosed with GERD, which is basically a form of acid reflux with no signs of heartburn or acid, except that it deteriorates your vocal cords, so I sorta sound like George Thorogood now :) My voice has its up ands downs and sometimes won't work at all, they have me ona  ****ton of medicine but say it will be at least 8 months before its solid and healthy again.

wow! I wondered what happend to you Weyland. Sorry about the voice and all cry, but you have always been a raspy - MF, so this probably isnt going to be that big of a change wink We definetely need to coordinate servers, I'm really looking forward to some PvP -- whether it be pvp mini games, or realm-vs-realm.

I will probably hop on to AoC as well, and I was thinking of trying out a full PvP world.

does anyone know, are the full pvp worlds FFA PVP, or are they realm vs realm style?

I'm not much into FFA pvp, though if we have a large enough group It can work out --- you really need the buddy system in FFA.

I didn't play the beta at all but with the races/class system there doesn't seem to be a realm type set up.

Like in EQ2 you have good and evil but with AoC only certain races can play certain classes.

Fynne said that they held an FFA PvP event the last day of beta and that it was crazy.

The descriptions of the PvP servers are pretty vague but I would assume that it is more of an FFA when your outside of city borders and zones where you are safe etc.

They do have realm vs realm but  it seems to be more guild vs guild I am not really sure how that works either because it mentions the "head out to the borders." It seems that every server will have PvP and that guilds will have to fight PvP style to keep their guild headquarters.

Age of Conan sports a number of choices for the PvP player, everything from casual, instant fun minigames to massive siege battles to an entire PvP server with friends to make and foes to kill.

Your PvP options include:

PvP Minigames
Age of Conans PvP minigames are intended as pick up and play fun, something easy to get into solo or with a group of friends, a way to hop right into the action when you want something fast and furious, more akin to an FPS match than traditional MMO combat.

Age of Conans PvP minigames include:

  • Capture the Skull
You will join one of two teams with the goal of capturing the opposing sides skull as many times as possible. They will, of course, not take kindly to this and will try to stop you.
  • Team Annihilation
You will join one of two teams, with the goal being to kill as many players on the opposing team as you possibly can. Of course, theyll be trying to do the same to you.

Massive PvP/Siege PvP
Head out to the Border Kingdom with your guild, or hire yourself out for pay, and wage epic battles for control of player-owned battlekeeps. There are a limited number of these battlekeeps on each server, meaning combat will be fast and furious, and the benefits of owning one mean guilds will fight tooth and nail to keep theirs (or take away someone elses!)

Player versus Player Siege Warfare

PvP Servers
For those who just cant get enough PvP, Age of Conan features PvP-flagged servers, with rules allowing widespread PvP, and PvP-RP servers, which not only allow for lots and lots of PvP, but also feature a robust ruleset encouraging roleplaying and staying in-character.

Advancement
PvP also has its own system of leveling and advancement, with dedicated PvP levels, feats, and so forth, for those who do well or spend a lot of time PvPing. This system will complement the regular advancement system, allowing you to further tune your character to your own tastes.

Drunken Brawling
You will proceed to one of the designated taverns, get drunk out of your mind, and take wild, drunken swings at friends and foes alike.

So after reading through the community site, I am leaning towards either an Aquilonian Conqueror or a Stygian Herald of Xotli.

Yeah that is what I was basing my comments off of.

EQ2 Good characters can't attack other good characters so in sorts most of the zones around Qeynos are safe. Free for all PvP would mean that you could be attacked by anyone at anytime, which can get old really quick. You have to log out to AFK and all of that jazz.

So far I have heard of three different groups of people playing AoC:

Fynne's Group of friends
Daishan's Group of friends
Weylands's Group of friends

Should we try to round up all these groups? or some of these groups? I'd like to start with a good sized number of people, if possible.

I looked at the AoC web page for server types. The rule differences where non-existent. I think if I play it will be on a PvP server. Unless there is enough PvP in the non-PvP servers. But im guesssing it will not be.

I think the plan is to try and get everyone together on the same server so that there is a good sized group of people.

I am going to talk to fynne and make sure that her friends start on the same server as daishan and will do the same with weyland. This way we have 15 people out of the gates to group with etc.

They were all looking at a PvE server so once we get the hang of it we can move to PvP and bring some people with us if there isn't enough PvP on the regular PvE servers. With the Guild vs Guild PvP thing and them hiring mercenaries it sounds like that there should be big pvp events going on that you can jump into during prime time hours.

I think the Guild vs Guild PvP is where the fun is going to be. That is what I have been looking forward to from day one. Starting on a PvE server will allow us to learn the game and level in peace, and get to the Guild v Guild stuff quicker.

I think that those events are on the PvE servers as well. I guess time will tell :).

I am just hoping that the game doesn't suck and that they have enough end game content to keep people happy.

I don't think any game will ever have enough end game content to be honest...

That's what Guild vs Guild PvP is for, IMHO.  You are always against human opponents, so it is always different and exciting.

I don't agree 100%...I have grown bored of PvP games before.  Attacking the same guild fortress again and again, whether the people inside are different or the same, will eventually grow boring.  It is just like playing capture the flag in quake or something I would imagine - and eventually even that gets boring.

Yeah generally a well designed PvP system can make the life span of a game lacking end game content longer.

Several of the FPS games like BF2 has been running for 6-7 years now just because of the online experience.

It doesn't always keep you entertained but if the system is dynamic enough it can be fun for a while.
